Transportation in Costa Rica
Santa Teresa invites you to switch gears: beach days, surf and sunsets worth lingering over. Find transportation from Juan Santamaría Airport (SJO) to Santa Teresa and start planning your arrival on Costa Rica's Pacific coast, on the Nicoya Peninsula.
SJO and Santa Teresa are already selected in the search. Heading to Montezuma or Mal País instead? Adjust the destination to match. Enter your date and passengers to compare providers, prices and estimated journey times.
When your service includes a ferry, the Gulf of Nicoya crossing offers a break between road journeys: open water, a breeze and a different view of the landscape. These ferries carry both passengers and vehicles, giving you a glimpse of everyday Costa Rican life on your way to the beach.
The service type tells you how you will travel: “ferry” means a ferry crossing, while “boat” means a boat service. They are different options. For ferry services, the provider normally supplies the tickets included in your fare; a boat segment within a combined service likewise carries no additional transport charge.
Compare shared services by departure time, fare per passenger and estimated duration. For a private transfer, check the service price and group capacity; you can enter your preferred departure time in the next step.
If your private transfer includes a ferry, that time needs to fit the ferry's operating schedule. TicoRide and the provider will coordinate any pickup adjustment with you to connect with the appropriate crossing.
Select your destination, then choose your hotel or accommodation from the booking list. Can't find yours? Choose a nearby one and add your preferred accommodation's name and location in the notes so we can help coordinate it. If you are taking a shared shuttle to a private residence, the selected hotel will be your drop-off point.
Choose your date and passengers, compare and select a service. Complete your pickup and drop-off details, then review the total and conditions before sending your request. Arriving by plane? Allow time for immigration and baggage collection. For surfboards or oversized luggage, check your chosen service's conditions.
No. Check the service type: it distinguishes ferry, boat and other transport options.
Search with your date and passengers. Each option shows its price and estimated duration; private prices are for the service, while shared fares are per passenger.
Yes. Swap the locations and search your return date. If a ferry is included, pickup will be coordinated with the crossing in that direction.

Child Car Seats & Booster Seats
Costa Rican law requires appropriate child safety seats based on a child's age, weight, and height, with certain exceptions depending on the transportation service. If traveling with infants or children, please indicate the correct number of passengers during booking so the transportation provider can arrange the appropriate car seats or booster seats. These seats are usually provided at no additional cost, although fees may vary by provider.
